Another interesting fact from the Pew report is that as a direct consequence of lowest educational standards, JW's are in the lowest income bracket.
I also feel it is interesting to look at the divorce rates on that report, 12% overall, 14% JW's.

i am not a witness.
if i have understood correctly, in the wts, a single woman is at a disadvantage.
the wts is male-dominated and a woman can only go up through her father or husband.
Can anyone speculate why she would choose to stay single?

a co-worker of mine whose family (2 daughters, wife) are jw's related a funny story yesterday.
his wife and daughters missed the friday portion of the convention last week in order to attend a wedding of a worldly relative.
at dinner she mentioned to him that she would go to the convention this friday to make up for the one she missed.. he then asked why and she said so she could get the information she missed.
1989 First day of convention at Crystal Palace returned to brand new car in car park to find window smashed and radio stolen. Quite a few other cars had the same treatment. Difficult to concentrate on the following days.

A few years ago now, I think it was Southampton, we had streaker. He walked in wearing only boxer shorts, (attendants obviously asleep), dropped them and ran on to the field. A few attendants chased him and after an absolute age caught him and put a sheet around him and took him away. That woke everyone up!

i learned to read on that book.there were some very disturbing images,like the earth opening up and people falling into it.like upside down ladies and hippies.id love to get a hold of one and peruse it with a friend and some herbal medicine.maybe there is one in the attic?anyway,that and the image of the snake talking to the beautiful,bare shouldered eve,who was holding an apple,made a big impression on me.any else have any faves from that book?is it still being used?.

Bloody free-loading royals ... about the only thing the French got right was handling monarchy.
As far as the UK is concerned they make us a fair bit of money. Every day we have hundreds of thousands of tourists doing the 'Royal' bits, Buckingham Palace, Windsor, etc etc. I see hoards of Japanese tourists at the gate snapping away and think of all the money they are spending! Then there is all the peripheral business such as hotels and resturants. I am sure many of these tourists only come for the relatively unique system we have here.
In addition to tourism there is a complete 'Royal' industry in nick-nacks and books and magazines. Without the Royal Family a lot of people would be worse off or even unemployed. They earn their keep.

Seven thousand years each creative day for a 49,000 year week
I remember the old Paradise book very well and still have one. The 7,000 year creative days caused me all sorts of problems at school in the 50's and early 60's. I used to tell my teachers that fossils of animals could only be 13,000 years old max! No wonder they thought JW's were nutters!
Once again a case of quietly changing doctrine and pretending they never taught such twaddle.
